This site is dedicated to keeping cadets, parents, and interested alumni aware of important information about our program.  Anyone interested in having information posted to the site should send the information to SFC (Ret) Michael Whalen, the site manager.  I hope it is useful and enjoyable for all cadets and parents. All information posted will be edited to meet academic standards. All text posted in red or blue, indicates new information since the last update! Meet the Instructors

Major Robert Pierce

Major (Ret.) Robert Pierce

            Major Pierce was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery and awarded a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Management from SUNY College at Old Westbury in 1982.  He also attended Nassau Community College and earned an Associates degree in Afro-American studies in 1979 and a Masters Degree in Human Resources from Webster University in 1995. Prior to going to college Major Pierce served as an Army medic for four years an achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5.

            Major Pierce served in a variety of positions during his 20 year career in the Army. As an officer he was a Fire Support Team Leader, Battery Executive Officer, Battery Commander to name a few. Major Pierce also worked in his secondary area of Special Operations for 4 years. Duty assignments included Fort Stewart, Ga., Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Two tours in Germany and one tour in Korea.

            His first JROTC assignment was in Fort Worth, Texas at North Side High School  SY 1998-1999. The next year he was hired by the Grand Prairie school district to start up new Army JROTC programs for their 2 High Schools. It took three years to get those programs up and running and in 2002 he was recruited to teach in the Mesquite, Texas school district and has been at West Mesquite High School ever since.

            Since being assigned to West Mesquite, the JROTC program has gone from Honor Unit, to Honor Unit with Distinction and has maintained that ranking ever since. He has coached many successful teams to include Precision and Sporter Rifle teams, Academic teams, Orienteering teams, Physical Fitness teams (Male and Female) and Color Guards. This is Major Pierce’s 14th year teaching JROTC and is well known throughout Dallas/Fort Worth as an Instructor with high standards who knows how to build great teams and great JROTC programs.

SFC (Ret) Michael Whalen served 20 years two months and fourteen days of active duty as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army, serving in various leadership positions

 

SFC Whalen completed his undergraduate studies by graduating Cum Lade from Dallas Baptist University, majoring in Communications / Business and his graduate studies at Amberton University when he received Master of Science Degree in Professional Training Development.

 

SFC Whalen also served extensively with the United States Army Recruiting Command. SFC Whalen is starting his 22nd of teaching JROTC in the fall of 2012. He taught at North Mesquite in Mesquite Texas for 10 years, St. Johns Military Academy in Salina, Kansas for 8 years and joined the West Mesquite cadre on 9 November 2009.

 

SFC Whalen recently celebrated his 35th wedding anniversary to his lovely wife, Pamela.  The Whalen’s have three grown children and four grandchildren. 

 

 In his past time SFC Whalen enjoys working in his woodshop.   

In addition, he is also the web-master for the JROTC website at West Mesquite.
